A bit more about me...

I am a certified yoga teacher (E-RYT) by Yoga Alliance, with 18 years of experience teaching yoga for a variety of adult populations. I apply my knowledge, experience, and love for mind-body approaches to design and implement behavioral interventions that promote better health and optimal well-being.

I also love science and statistics! I have extensive training in research methods and statistical approaches. I am a versatile scientist with a broad range of skills...I can be out in the community talking to people or at the laboratory working with blood and saliva samples; I can generate graphics that show basic statistics (percentages, means) or produce sophisticated statistical models that seek to explain behavior.

Lastly but not least, I have been working with the industry and government entities for several years in initiatives that simultaneously promote human and planetary health. These include the promotion of food waste reduction, consumption of plant-based diets, and reduction of plastic use.

My Story

I am originally from Mexico. I was born in the city of Chihuahua and moved to the border region of Ciudad Juarez/El Paso as a child. As a college student, I used to cross the bridge every day to attend classes at the University of Texas at El Paso. I moved to El Paso to pursue graduate school and eventually earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences.

After graduation, I moved to Phoenix, AZ to complete a post-doctoral training in nutrition at Arizona State University, where I also started my journey towards an independent research career. Throughout the years, I have worn many different hats, including project coordinator, statistical consultant, lecturer, volunteer, and research faculty. As a result, I acquired vast experience in all phases of the research process, from the logistics of participant recruitment and project management to the scientific aspects of data collection and analysis, as well as the dissemination and application of research findings in the community.

As an independent researcher, I have numerous scientific publications and presentations at national and international conferences. I also have received several grants as Principal Investigator and I have earned several awards for my work.

In my personal time I enjoy connecting with nature, volunteering as a yoga teacher, practicing outdoor sports, and reading for pleasure.
